Meet Lenora Bellhurst
Dark stories. Old legends. Mountain secrets.
Lenora Bellhurst is an Appalachian Gothic author, storyteller, and lifelong lover of things that go bump in the night.
Born and raised in the mountains of East Tennessee, Lenora writes stories rooted in both the beauty and darkness of Appalachia. Her fiction blends Gothic horror, dark romance, folklore, fantasy, mystery, and the supernatural, often exploring old family secrets, haunted places, unsettling lore, complicated women, dangerous love, and the uncomfortable possibility that some legends became legends for a reason.
Before becoming The Appalachian G’Author, Lenora spent years telling stories in other ways. She is an award-winning former journalist, bestselling novelist, educator, and public speaker. She holds an MFA in Writing and a doctorate in education.
But the mountains have always called her back to fiction.
The Appalachian G’Author
The Appalachian G’Author is Lenora’s love letter to the strange and beautiful place she calls home.
Beyond her novels, Lenora explores Appalachian folklore, ghost stories, superstitions, forgotten history, strange places, literature, local legends, and the occasional winding mountain road that simply begs to be followed.
She believes Appalachia is far more complex than the stereotypes written about it. It is beautiful and brutal, ancient and changing, deeply rooted and endlessly mysterious.
And it is full of stories.
When she isn’t writing, Lenora can usually be found with strong coffee and an old book, wandering somewhere with a questionable history, photographing things most people would probably walk past, or explaining why taking the creepy back road is obviously more interesting.
She lives in the mountains of East Tennessee with her family and a household containing entirely too many animals.
She has no intention of leaving.
Welcome to the mountains.
